WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRE – QUALIFICATION AND PRE -APPROVAL?

Pre-qualification is the process by which you and your lender determine how much home you can afford based on income, expenses, debt and other information that you share with the lender. The lender will give you an estimate of the amount of the loan for which you could be approved. The lender does not verify your information at this point. The lender is not legally or otherwise bound to make the loan to you at this point and the payment amounts that you may discuss with the lender at this point are not guaranteed to be the actual payment amounts you will have to make on the mortgage. The lender may provide you with a pre-qualification letter however, remember pre-qualification is no guarantee that you will be approved for the loan.
Pre-approval is the process by which you are approved for a specified loan amount and the mortgage payments are provided to you. The lender will verify the income, expenses, debt and other information and do a credit check. You will submit a loan application and the lender will document the loan and will be committed to providing you with a specified amount of money.
